Salad, Anyone?

I grew enough stuff to make my husband a salad. I'm so excited. He ate every bite and said it was delicious. (I hope he was telling me the truth!) And I swear, that banana pepper was not there two days ago. It is so cool!

What's With this Mulch?

Well, today I finished my backyard flower beds. I am very pleased as this is my first attempt ever to do such a thing. But, I ran into a problem. The mulch in the final bed is two different colors. It is not because I bought two different colors. They were exactly the same brand and product. It's just that the last 3 bags were a darker color. I wish I would have known. I would have been more careful at the store when choosing the bags. But, once you've dumped an entire bag of mulch on the ground, you don't really feel like picking it up again. I'll just have to live with it. I hope after some time and fading it will all blend in together much better. This time, I mixed some Maxi Gerbera Daisies in the bed. I love it when they bloom!

I also have quite a little container garden growing. The first two containers were planned, the third was just for fun because I had an extra pot, and the last 3 all happened today. I bought two containers to hold the extra begonias and vincas I had left over. And, I bought a Mandevilla just because it looked pretty and Julio liked it, too. So, I am pretty pleased with how all that is looking out on my porch!

Isn't That Cool?

These are photos of my cucumber plant which is planted in a container with a tomato plant. The cucumber has attached itself to the tomato plant and is growing up.

HOW COOL!

The kids were fascinated. They thought it was super neat that the runners attached themselves in circles and corkscrew shapes.

We have made so many discoveries already. A garden, even a container one is a great experience to share with your kids.

I've decided to take control of the flower beds in my backyard (I'll leave the front yard to the pros)!

I dug out all the weeds and trash, planted new flowers, trimmed the shrubs and placed new mulch. It was a full morning's work with one bed still to go. It was very rewarding. I really enjoyed it.

The flowers are geranium and Tiny Ghost Asiatic Lily. The geranium was for sale at Lowe's. It is an Allure Light Pink and part of the proceeds went to Susan G. Komen. I love that. I buy "pink" whenever I get the chance. Every little bit helps, right?

Here are a couple of before and after photos. They are obviously not the same bed, but the before shows the same mess!
